This past year has been quite interesting for me.
One minute I felt clear about the direction God was leading me and the next minute I felt as lost as can be. Can you relate?
What do you do when you don’t know what to do?
One thing you must know about me is that I was always quick to get ahead of God. I would make plans and then ask Him to bless them. After getting myself in all kinds of messes, I realized that was not the life for me.
Something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately is the story of Noah and how God gave him step by step directions to build this gigantic ark that was supposed to save the people and animals from the flood. There were no contractors working with Noah giving him blueprints on how to build an ark. God gave him the instructions.
If you truly let that sink in, you will for sure have an AHA moment.
Why are we walking around lost and confused when we can simply ask the person who created us for directions.
So, I wanted to share 5 tips to help you when you don’t know what to do…
1. Be Still– I don’t know about you but when I find myself feeling lost it seems like I will just start doing stuff just to do stuff. I have always been a planner and a doer so my first reaction is often “there has to be something I can be doing.” But what if that something is just for you to be still. In a world that is constantly on the go, we all need to take more time to be still. I truly believe that’s why God allowed the pandemic in 2020. Without it many of us would have just continued being busy bodies, but having the whole world shut down forced many of us to learn how to be still.
2. Ask God– This goes back to my earlier point, about God giving Noah step by step directions in building the ark. Of course, there are numerous other stories of God giving someone directions in the Bible and I know for my own self how God will give directions when we simply ask. In fact, let me share an example from my own life. When the pandemic first hit, people began buying up all the toilet paper. Every store I went to was out of toilet paper and we were down to our last roll. I remember heading to the store once again but this time I stopped and prayed and asked God to please tell me what store to go to for toilet paper. I was tired of wasting time and gas. God told me to go to another store not the one I was headed to, and you wouldn’t believe it but this store had an overflow of toilet paper. I never thought I could get so excited about toilet paper, but that day God just reminded me all we have to do is ask.
3. Listen– As simple as this sounds, we often have a hard time doing it but if you’re tired of feeling lost and confused then take the time to listen. Listen when you ask God different things and you’re waiting on an answer. God always answers us. Oftentimes it maybe we don’t like the answer He gave but you will save yourself heartache and pain if you just learn to listen the FIRST time.
4. Take Action– Can we have a moment for a hard truth? Many of us are not confused about what we are supposed to be doing or at least the next step God has told us to take. We know what to do, but we let fear keep us stuck. Fear of failure, fear of what other people may say and for many of you it may be fear of success that has you pretending like you don’t know what to do. I want to encourage you if God has told you to do something- just do it! He obviously wouldn’t have told you to do it unless He had a plan to help you. I am almost certain you have been struggling with something God has told you to do. Can we declare that today will be the day you take that step and move forward in faith? You don’t have to do it alone which leads me to my last point…
5. Get Help– I am of the mindset that many of the things God calls us to do are way beyond anything we could ever accomplish on our own. He created us for community- even all you introverted people who love being by yourself. We all have something in us that can help and bless others. Sometimes we just need others to help us get what’s in us out of us. There are so many resources out there and there really is a community for anything you can possibly think of. Plus, if you have a problem with asking for help or knowing where to seek help just go back to point #2 and start from there.
I am also here to help you in any way that I can. You can always shoot me an email or book a complimentary session.
This is going to be the year where we get rid of all the excuses that hold us back. We are going to be ALL that God has created us to be and we are going to be unapologetic about it. So, are you with me? I sure hope so!
